Ian Fleming

Ian Fleming is a dynamic musician, songwriter and producer from Los Angeles whose career bridges the worlds of black metal, alternative rock, pop and genre-blending experimentation. Known for his raw lyricism, dark humor, and emotionally charged performances, Fleming has carved a unique path through the independent music landscape.

Early Career and Black Metal Roots

At the age of 17 Fleming first emerged as a founder, primary songwriter, vocalist, and guitarist for the cult black metal band Ritual. He was instrumental in shaping the band’s sound on their influential early albums, The Summoning (1995) and Demonic Winter Metal (1997), which became staples in the underground black metal scene. During this period, Fleming also established the independent label Spiritual Productions, releasing a compilation album that showcased the city’s burgeoning extreme metal talent. He also began an acting career landing his first real TV role as a killer on America's Most Wanted.

Evolution and The Secret Agents

After Ritual’s initial run, Fleming expanded his musical horizons, embracing alternative, pop and punk influences. He embarked on a solo project and played shows under the moniker Ian Fleming & The Secret Agents, an obvious reference to his name and an expression of how hard it was to find like-minded humans that had a passion burning as bright and entirely encompassing as his own. This development fostered a different melodic sensibility and satirical edge to his songwriting. His debut album, The Wrong One, received critical acclaim for its blend of gritty rock anthems and introspective ballads, with standout tracks like the self-deprecating single “I Suck” gaining international radio airplay, the somber and introspective acoustic track "New" and his innovative cover of Alan Parsons - “Eye In The Sky”. The band’s reputation for high-energy performances led to opening slots for rock legends such as Blue Öyster Cult.

The Resurrection Of Ritual

In 2011 a new Ritual album appropriately titled The Resurrection was released sparking a wave of live shows and eventually a tour and the release of Epic Sagas in 2018.

Collaborations and Production

Fleming’s versatility extends beyond his own projects. He has worked behind the scenes with artists across genres, including Snoop Dogg, Stephen Marley, and Slightly Stoopid. Whether producing, writing, or performing, Fleming’s approach is marked by a commitment to authenticity and a DIY ethos.

Musical Style and Influence

Drawing inspiration from the emotional intensity of metal, the melodic hooks of alternative rock, a unique pop sensibility and the innovation of genre fusion, Fleming’s music is both powerful and accessible. His lyrics often explore themes of self-doubt, resilience, and personal transformation, delivered with a signature blend of vulnerability and wit.

Current Work

Ian continues to write, record and perform, actively developing new material for both Ritual and Ian Fleming. He is currently finishing production on a new album with a new sound unlike anything he’s done prior.
